The Academy is a rigorous 80-hour program that takes place over the course of 8 days in the Spring. Trainees will need to demonstrate they have learned all necessary skills required of a Long Beach Lifeguard. The training cadre tracks the trainee's progress and determines if they have successfully passed the training academy. After successfully completing the training academy, trainees will become recurrent seasonal lifeguards and will be able to select their summer schedule. Summer schedules are full-time 40-hrs per week with possible overtime.
